Endotoxin-altering activity of plasma does not affect antigenicity of native protoplasmic polysaccharide.

چکیده
The capacity to precipitate quantitatively with homologous antiserum of native protoplasmic polysaccharide from Escherichia coli was not reduced by incubation in human plasma; it was reduced with the immunochemically related lipopolysaccharide.

Lipid A as the biologically active moiety in bacterial endotoxin (LPS)-initiated generation of procoagulant activity by peripheral blood leukocytes.
Preparations of rabbit or human leukocytes, when incubated with bacterial endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides, LPS) are stimulated to generate a procoagulant-tissue factor activity (TFa). As LPS has been shown to consist of specific repeating oligosaccharide side chains (O-antigen) linked to a central polysaccharide core region that is, in turn, linked to the lipid region of the molecule (lipid A),...

The endotoxin-altering activity of fractions isolated from normal horse serum was examined by incubation of Salmonella typhosa strain 0-901 endotoxin (Boivin) in a solution of the fraction, and subsequent quantitation of any diminution in the capacity of endotoxin to be precipitated by specific anti-endotoxin antiserum. The horse serum fraction isolated by precipitation with ammonium sulfate at...
متن کاملImmunochemical Study of a Bacterial Endotoxin: Shigella Flexneri Type Z
The endotoxins of the Gram-negative bacteria have similar biological and chemical properties. The toxic antigen of Shigella flexneri Type Z was selected as a representative endotoxin, and it was confirmed that the antigen consists of a polysaccharide conjugated with phospholipid and protein. By the technique of zone electrophoresis, the polysaccharide of the purified endotoxin was shown to be c...
متن کاملPhysical Aspects of Reversible Inactivation
Most early investigations of the chemistry of endotoxins were limited to gross analyses. I t soon became apparent that subtler means of degradation, such as enzymes, were necessary to determine structural configurations and intramolecular relationships within the endotoxin complex. Just such a subtle endotoxin-degrading system was suggested by the observation of Hegemann (1954) that human plasm...
